Having purchased a sledge hammer, we returned to the statue of Cthulhu we had toppled the night before, only to find it standing again, unscathed. Because Mathew had wasted several hours posting a new Chewbacca mashup, we did not arrive at the statue until dusk. I scolded him for his idiocy, although he remained steadfastly unrepentant.

Realizing our potential peril, Mathew began trying to demolish the sculpture with the hammer, but his blows simply rebounded from the stone without damaging it in the slightest. After several attempts at its destruction, the statue began to glow with a weird light and bolts of electricity began to emanate from its head. A powerful, hot wind, tainted with the smell of burnt ozone suddenly howled against us and in its wake, three creatures slithered from behind the statue.

They were wingless and serpentine, but with the distinctive look of dragons. If dragons they were, I have never encountered their like before. They ranged between fifteen and twenty-five feet long. Their heads were about the same size as horse's heads. They did not breath fire, but they did expel a noxious vapor from mouth and nostrils. Their eyes also glowed like lanterns in the darkness. They came at us and one encircled Mathew's chest. It attempted to squeeze the life from him, but I managed to startle it by imbuing him with a temporary burst of strength and agility. He broke free and, in the confusion, we sought the better part of valor. He ran, heading for the shelter of the tree line where we hoped they would not be able to easily follow. But the beasts were fast upon our trail and gained ground on us so rapidly that it seemed certain we could not escape.

As the first of them came for us, Mathew surprised me (and it) by charging at it like a madman and smashing its head with the sledge hammer. His blow stove in its skull and he whirled immediately to take on the next comer. This one also fell before his crazed onslaught. These were, however, the smallest two of the three. As the third and largest came for us, Mathew sprinted the last few yards to the tree line and his waiting motorcycle. Although the dragon-thing was fast, it was not able to outstrip the motorcycle at full speed and we made good our escape.
