Unidentified Past Monsters Mathew has Battled!

Exploring the area of forest around the sealed cave of the Burnt Lady, we were set upon by this gelatinous creature. About the size of beach ball, with tentacles hanging another three-and-a-half to four feet below, it levitated in the air as if floating in water. It's single, enormous eye had a kind of mesmerizing effect that briefly ensnared Mathew. The beast's dangling appendages delivered a powerful sting that turned Mathew's skin a bright purple color and induced seizures. There was no permanent damage once the purple tint faded, but Mathew did cry like a small child and writhe upon the ground.
After delivering its sting, the creature quickly fled by ascending high above us and losing itself in the canopy of the trees. I believe we should investigate further as I suspect this is an area of evil magic saturation, but Mathew is reluctant. Any information on this creature and how best to battle it could be very useful in bolstering his inadequate courage.
