This bizarre, one-eyed creature most resembled a cross between a baboon and a jackal in terms of its size and ferocity. It ran on four legs, but stood to fight us on two. The "hands" on its forelegs were prehensile-like a racoon's. We encountered it near a graveyard at the edge of a forested area, apparently feeding on a freshly buried corpse it had unearthed. Mathew attempted to slay it, but it knocked him to the ground. It would have savaged his face and probably killed him, but it seemed startled when it bit down on my metal and broke a tooth. It yelped loudly and ran into the woods, where we lost it. It was my theory that it either went underground or took to the trees.
